He will speak at 10 a.m. on Mondays, Nov. 15, Nov. 22 and Nov. 29, in Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 North Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

The FIRST CLASS program at CU provides weekly worship services, and small group mentoring groups, for freshmen students with focus on facilitating character development, servant leadership and stewardship.

“Stewardship is the most important, under salvation,” Shull said at FIRST CLASS in the first of his series, Nov. 8.

Shull spoke about success, and how to be successful you must first be a good steward.

“Your definition of success determines your direction,” Shull said. “If your definition is to have wealth of Bill Gates… it’s the wrong direction.”

Shull’s working definition of success is “managing what you have and using it to the best of your ability so that God will be glorified.”

He said, “God doesn’t want us to fail. Success will come when you’re faithful to and fruitful with what God has given you.”

Shull referred to the three men given talents in Matthew 25:14-30. Two of the men produced talent, but one man refused to use his talent. “He failed because he wasn’t a good steward.”

Shull said, “We’re constantly comparing ourselves to those around us. God made you unique to you; so just be you. God has invested a special something with you, use it! If you don’t use the gift God has given you, you become impoverished.”

Three steps to becoming successful, according to Shull, are: 1. if you are faithful; 2. be determined to be fruitful; and 3. take some risk.
“Faithfulness today will provide fruitfulness tomorrow,” he said.

There are risks that must be taken in order to become successful. “Refuse inclination to recite excuses. Excuses are the tools of incompetent, lazy individuals used to build monuments of nothingness,” he said.

God makes promises. With God you can be successful. “One plus God equals the majority,” Shull said. “When you’re on God’s side, you’re always in the majority.”
